WordFinder Unlimited for IT

Access Methods

IP Verification

Many large organisations use this option to facilitate easy access e.g. in a library/computer room environment. Access to the dictionaries will be generic for all users and there is also a possibility to create direct links to specific dictionaries you would like to promote the use of.

The page below contains more information and serves as a how-to for the users:

Personal Accounts (WordFinder IDs)

A user can create a personal account, a so called WordFinder ID, via the self service mechanism part of the IP Verification facility or having a WordFinder ID registered by some other process. With a WordFinder ID the users get more functionality such as selecting the dictionaries they want to work with by adding them to My dictionaries and the ability to search in more than one dictionary at a time. Users can also use their WordFinder IDs to sign in to our Desktop and mobile applications.

Federated Accounts

WordFinder Unlimited integrates with Skolfederation and Microsoft to enable Single Sign-On (SSO) for schools and organisations. Your organisation needs to be a member of Skolfederation or use the Microsoft Azure AD to be able to access WordFinder using any of these methods. We can also set up a custom federation using SAML.

The benefits with a federation are that administration of users is kept at a minimum, yet (as opposed to IP Verification) the users will have the same functionality in WordFinder Online as with a personal account (WordFinder ID) with the convenience of using the same login as they do in your organisation. In scenarios where users do not have a personal computer, but login with their work or school account, this account caters for a personalised experience of WordFinder Online.

Azure AD Federation

Setting up a federation using a work or school account backed by Microsoft requires that:

  • Your users are stored in the Microsoft Azure AD.
  • We get your Tenant ID to be able to identify your users.

When your account is set up it is recommended that your Global Admin for the Azure AD gives Admin Consent to the use of our applications. Please see the application specific methods below:

  • WordFinder Online: Click this link app.wordfinder.com/azurelogin?admin and follow the instructions on the  Microsoft sign in page.
  • WordFinder Pro for Windows: Shift + Click the Sign in with Microsoft button  in the  WordFinder Application Manager sign in dialogue and follow the instructions given on the Microsoft sign in page. Please see the WordFinder Pro for Windows section below for more information about this application and deployment guidelines.

Applications

WordFinder Online

Your users access WordFinder Online on https://app.wordfinder.com. Here the users will select dictionaries and manage their profiles as well as use our robust and fast web application to work with our dictionaries and term databases.

WordFinder Pro for Windows

Users will need a WordFinder ID or a Microsoft work or school account to login with WordFinder Pro for Windows.

WordFinder Pro for Windows is designed for personal use since the dictionaries selected by the user are downloaded to the user’s workstation and used locally, which also ensures offline functionality. The user needs to be online at least once a week to allow the licenses to be checked and renewed.

WordFinder Pro for Unlimited communicates with app.wordfinder.com to fetch dictionaries, renew licenses and deliver search statistics. Thus the deployment of WordFinder Pro for Unlimited will only need to cover the software. Dictionaries and license files will be downloaded automatically when the users sign in with either their WordFinder IDs or Microsoft work or school accounts.

Please note: If your organisation has legacy dictionaries (not part of WordFinder Unlimited) installed, it is important that you back them up. If you need to deploy them to some users, they shall be placed in their default location: Program-folder (x86)\WFwin and NOT in the ProgramData\WFwin\Dicts folder, the latter being reserved for subscribed dictionaries. Legacy dictionaries stored in the default location are automatically added to WordFinder Pro for Windows.

We have a deployment guideline here:

Monitoring of searches and licenses

Our service delivery to you is dependent on the ability to aggregate search hits and check licenses. The search hits are stored on an organisational basis and stores only the number of hits in each specific dictionary. The sending of search hits and checking of licenses are performed in each application via an encrypted transport on port 443.

For searches conducted online in the following applications: WordFinder Online, WordFinder for iOS, WordFinder Android, the sending of search hits and checking of licenses are integrated in the request/response mechanism performing the actual search and retrieval.

For searches conducted offline in the following applications: WordFinder Pro for Windows, WordFinder Pro for Mac, WordFinder for iOS, WordFinder for Android, the sending of search hits and checking of licenses are performed when the application is online again. It is mandatory to go online at least once a week, i.e. users can run our offline enabled applications offline for 1 week after the last sync of search hits and licenses.
